Meet Marti Pieper
Marti Pieper’s passion to read, write, and pray makes her life an adventure. A prayer project led her to help Brent and Deanna Higgins tell their son’s compelling story. I Would Die for You: One Student’s Story of Passion, Service, and Faith (Revell, 2008) became a young-adult bestseller and missions classic still in print today. It also launched her into additional book projects.
Today, Marti continues as award-winning author, collaborative writer, editor, and speaker. Literary agent Christopher Ferebee represents her work. She serves as editorial director for the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida, where she has the privilege of writing and editing gospel-focused stories.
Having finished a season of caregiving for her pastor husband, Tom, who suffered from young-onset dementia, and for her mother, who also had dementia, Marti writes and speaks about dementia, caregiving, prayer, and other faith-focused topics. She also continues to teach at writers conferences and other events and serves on the board of Word Weavers International. A homeschool mom for 21 years, she has five wonderful adult children and six even more wonderful grandchildren. Marti holds a B.S. in Dental Hygiene/Education from The Ohio State University and an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
In Marti’s Own Words
What do you do? It’s a question I often receive.
As my son once described my work, “Write, edit, and write some more.”
My nonfiction book projects allow me to combine my writing and editing skills in all sorts of ways. I write. I edit. I assist authors by helping them take their written or spoken messages from good to great.
I’ve also written for Christian nonprofits and magazines, both print and digital, and I continue to serve as editorial director for the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida.
But the most important way I serve is by praying for these ministries, authors, and speakers. Together, we’ve watched God do some amazing things.
A Writer and Editor at Heart
WRITE
You might be a writer if, like Marti:
- You write poetry when you’re barely old enough to print sentences.
- You look forward to the term papers other students dread.
- You manage to fit some form of creative writing into every college project.
- Your mind takes constant road trips to visit new characters, plotlines, subheads, or titles.
- You have at least 250 clever first lines for novels stored in your head.

You might be an editor if, like Marti:
- You feel compelled to comment on billboards that contain grammatical errors.
- You read the restaurant menu and notice spelling mistakes.
- Your eye is immediately drawn to “it’s” used as a possessive.
- You embrace your inner spellchecker.
- You own a T-shirt that reads, “I am the grammarian about whom your mother warned you.”
